How To Treat A Swollen Lip

Submitted by Ellie L on 10/06/2009

Swollen lips are easy to treat. There are many ways how to treat a swollen lip, please read below;

Step 1
You must first have a look to see how deep and how bad is the injury is in your lip. The first thing to be done is to put ice on it to prevent it from bulging too much.

Step 2
There are other alternative to ice like a can of soda or chilled glasses or even cold water. Just put something cold to prevent further swelling while you are preparing for the treatment.

Step 3
Be sure that the things you are putting over your swollen lip are clean to prevent infections. Over time, if the lip is cold, the pain will alleviate and swelling will be gone. The wound, if there are any, will start to close off. Avoid eating foods which can irritate the swollen lip.

Step 4
If you are smoking, refrain from touching the injury to keep the pace of healing.

Step 5
You can gurgle with your mouthwash to keep your mouth clean and prevent further infections on your lip.
