How To Play Croquet

How to Play Croquet

This is one of the coolest games in the U.S. It is also one of the most popular games people want to play. And whether you are in the “hot” team or in the “cool” team, you will really enjoy being able to be a part of the game. Here are some important guidelines on how the game is played; these guidelines are based on the rules from the USCA (United States Croquet Association).

Step 1

There must be two teams in a game; the “hot” team which will play on the yellow and red balls and the “cool” team which will have black and blue balls to play.

Step 2

Each team should decide which team member plays first. The first team to play will have to have the blue and the black balls.  Each team should take turns according to the order of the colors of the balls; the blue should always be the first and the yellow should be the last.

Step 3

The ball must be placed 3 feet away from the first wicket. The player must try to hit it through to succeed. If so, a bonus stroke will be awarded to the player. Otherwise, his turn will be over and will be replaced by the next player.

Step 4

Now, if a ball of any of the players comes in contact with the ball of other player while taking his turn that is called “roquet” which will entitle him to have two bonus strokes.

Step 5

One of the techniques is to use the first bonus stroke to simply hit your ball making your own as well as your opponent’s ball to move. The second stroke will be used to be able to hit your own ball to guide it through the correct wicket.

Step 6

The proper passing of the ball should be: 1-southwest, 2-northwest, 3-northeast, 4-southeast, 5-south central and 6-north central. Once that order is done, it should be followed with a different order: 2, 1, 4, 3, 6 and 5.

Step 7

When your ball passes through the wicket, you must take your colored clip to be placed next to the other.

Step 8

If you can make your own ball to pass through the six wickets in a proper order, you will become a rover which will enable you to be able to take out your rover ball when the final stake is hit.

Step 9

You can simply roquet any ball during the play but should be done once only in every turn. However, when your rover ball can pass any wickets, you can do roquet more than once in your turns but cannot successively roquet any ball twice.

Step 10

If your team will be the first one to be able to hit the final stake with the two corresponding balls, your team will win the game.
