Nowadays, the most common format of the compressed file or folder is in .rar format. Not everyone knows how to open such file. So the following steps will help you open a .rar file.

Step 1

You will need to download the WinRar software. You can do a search using a search engine like Google, Yahoo or Msn to find it. The file must not exceed 4 megabytes. Therefore, it is really quick to download it to your pc.

Step 2

Once you are done with the download, you will have to install in to your pc; run the program by double-clicking it. Follow the instructions asked by the computer. There are times when you will have to restart your computer after the installation, if that happens restart your computer so that the program will take effect after the reboot. Usually, the installation of the WinRar will not be longer than 2 minutes depending on the speed of your computer, of course.

Step 3

Once you are done with the installation and have already restarted your pc, if you had to, then you can now open the WinRar software to launch it. If it is your first time to open it, the software will prompt you what kind of zipped file formats do you want to associate with WinRar; you can choose all if you want to but it is rather recommended to leave it to its default options.

Step 4

You can now locate the .rar file you want to open using WinRar. Or you can simply double-click on the zipped file and it will immediately be opened using the WinRar program.

Step 5

Choose the destination folder where you want to extract the zipped files. You can now open the files contained in a zipped folder.
