How To Make Play Dough

Submitted by Ellie L on 08/07/2009

Kids can learn how to combine colors or how to bake dough. You may simply follow the steps listed below.

Step 1

You will need these ingredients: 1 ½ cups of flour, 1 cup of tap water, 1 cup of vegetable oil, ½ cup of salt, 2 tablespoon of cream of tarter and food colorings with different colors.

Step 2

To simply make play dough, mix the flour, water, salt and the vegetable oil into a saucepan with medium to high heat underneath. Stir gently but continuously until all ingredients will become sticky and completely dissolved. The stirring will take 5 to 10 minutes. After which, you will have a play dough. Let it be until it cools down.

Step 3

Now, have your kids bake their own play dough. This will be a great learning experience for them as they will certainly learn how to measure the ingredients which they can take pride of. Let them flatten the dough with the use of rolling pins. Cookie cutters will be of great use to form shapes your children want.

Step 4

Have the kids color the play dough with any color combinations they want. This is also another point that your children can learn; how to combine colors to arrive at one color and how to make the color more vivid or less in contrast. For sure, your kids will love it.

Step 5

You may store the play dough using bags with zip locks or a container and should be put inside the fridge for about a week or two. You and your children will have something to look forward to.
