Worse weather outside the window has tendency to bring us down. Even if fall surprises with us some warm sunny days perfect for long walks and bike trips, usually it is grey and rainy. We start to feel more tired, and are prone to negative thoughts sometimes without even realizing it. We generally feel worse and can’t imagine surviving the cold months in good mood. It’s not surprising – after a wonderful summer full of good moments, memories and all kinds of activities we have to jump into a completely different life. Autumn and winter are with us for half a year and there is no way to escape it. We can either start vegetating in hope it will all pass as soon as possible, loosing half of our time on Earth as an effect, or we can start living an active life full of joy and positive energy – no matter what nature offers us. Find a new passion. Days may seem shorter, but it only looks like that. In reality it only gets dark faster, but the time we have after work is the same. Instead of sitting at home think of something you would like to do. Maybe you have always dreamed about painting? Subscribe to a course, buy some equipment and start doing it. Maybe you can start learning foreign languages? Autumn and winter are great seasons for some extra activities because we slow down a little. In summer we have usually so much to do that it is hard to think of self development. Take care of your state of mind. When there is not enough sun outside we are more prone to all kinds of lows and depressions. Now we should think positive more than ever. It is good to take care of our good mood in every area of life. When we want to go to the cinema, let’s choose a cheerful romantic comedy instead of a war movie. When we listen to music let us try to avoid depressing songs. If such attempts don’t work we can always prepare something good to eat or make ourselves a hot bubble bath. It can be anything as long as it makes us feel good. Don’t forget about sport. Some people are very active during spring and summer but as soon as it gets a little bit colder outside they resign thinking it is time for a break. The truth is our body needs activity even more during cold months. We accumulate more calories then and we lose shape much easier. To stay fit and not to waste what we have achieved during the year we should stay active. Weather shouldn’t be an excuse here. We just need proper equipment – with good quality cycling apparel or triathlon gear we can do sport even on a cold rainy or snowy day. Don’t work too much! Some of us have tendency to work way too long during fall and winter. They think there is actually nothing better to do and it is easier when they come back home late so the only thing to do is to go to bed. They have the feeling it all goes faster this way. But it’s not a good way of thinking. The more is happening in our life the faster it all goes so we should definitely have something to do after work. No matter if you love what you do or only like it, are a web design specialist or a lawyer – work is work but then there is life to live as well! I wish there was a cure for the autumn and winter blues, a pill we could just swallow and feel good. Unfortunately there isn’t so we have to try to deal with it on our own. When we try hard enough we will notice that the colder months can be as nice as spring or summer, it is just the matter of our attitude.
