Who else wants to know how to grow pumpkins at home? If you are one of those who are eager to learn how to grow pumpkins in your own garden, then all you need to do is sit back and carefully read and understand the instructions that we provide in this section.

We all know what pumpkins are, of course. But if just incase you forget, pumpkins are long-season crops used in various methods like baking pies. They are classified as vegetables, particularly a plant of the gourd family and its fruits.

And why would you like to know how to grow pumpkins? Is it because you just want to have your own pumpkin plantation? You can supply your own reasons other than what was mentioned.

Since we already have had the pumpkin review, let us then proceed to the growing steps and procedures.

Step 1:
Secure pumpkin plants from the nursery or if you prefer to start with seeds, then you might as well do it that way. If you use pumpkin seeds, you need to confirm the weather prior to sowing them outside. You can grow the seeds inside or you can directly spread them in your garden considering its warm season.

Step 2:
Select the appropriate location for you garden. Remember that pumpkins are for dry season crops, therefore, you need to prepare an area open to direct sunlight. Moreover, the soil has to be in between 6.0pH to 6.8pH.

Step 3:
Cultivate the soil. It has to be tilled properly. This must be done in order to allow more gaps for each pumpkin roots and vines to extend. You can allot an area about 15 feet in all directions.

Step 4:
After the cultivation, proceed right away to the hardening off seedlings. This time you will relocate the seedlings to you garden. Again, be sure you got the right season for planting them outside. Provide an allowable space for them to properly grow. The allotted spacing between each plant should be at least 5 feet in all edges.

Step 5:
Once your pumpkins are well-established, mulch them with organic matter in order to guard their roots. Likewise, this is one method used to preserve humidity and to restrain weeds. It is the best protection you could give to the plant during this stage.

Step 6:
Don’t forget to water the plants. They also need to be watered with at least one to two inches of water per week, especially if they already blossom and are about to bear fruits.

Step 7:
Provide your pumpkin plants with decomposed organic matter such as tea or seaweeds.

Step 8:
Fix and fasten the vines from time to time. This is especially done when the plants are about to bear fruits.

Step 9:
Be sure to keep them steady and harmony. In order to make this possible, carefully revolve each pumpkin once in a while. Be sure not to break the fragile vines.

Step 10:
Put a thin board beneath the large pumpkins to keep them from decaying.

Step 11:
After the vines have dried-up, it’s time to for harvesting. Reap the orange pumpkins as well as the white that are still lined with green. It is not a good idea to let them ripen outside especially when dry season is over.

And that is it! As simple as the given procedures, you can have your own pumpkin plantation at home.
