Broccoli has brought the vegetables to its upper level; in fact, a lot of people have turned vegetarian upon knowing the capabilities of vegetables. The vegetable has maintained it name on the top list of the doctors’ most recommended food items. The good thing is, it’s easy to learn how to grow broccoli, just follow the steps below to be guided accordingly:
Step 1 Prepare a place for your broccoli garden. Choose a place where you can get sunlight, with good drainage and where air can circulate easily. If you have an area of the garden where you have grown cauliflower before, you can use this, as it is also conducive to growing broccoli. Always consider that broccoli can grow up to three feet in height.
Step 2 In the place where you are planning to plant broccoli, add plenty of compost and dried animal manure; it will help the growth of the broccoli. Try to check the pH level of the soil; the most ideal is the soil with the pH of 7.2. However, broccoli can still grow effectively with soil pH between 6.2 and 7.2.
Step 3 Make a sink hole of about an inch and sow the seeds of broccoli setting 18 inches apart from each other.
Step 4 You may add more compost and manure as top-dressing to guarantee full nourishment of the soil which is essential for the early development of the seedlings.
Step 5 Don’t forget to water it at least twice a day to keep the oil moistened and damp even at noon. Sprouting seeds need more water for the first roots to grow deep and penetrate the soil well.
Step 6 You may mulch your garden to prohibit weeds from growing and further preserved the moisture in the soil. Paper collars in every young plant will protect them from cutworms.
Step 7 Once the heads become large enough to be used in cooking, you can pick them carefully. Flower stalks should be harvested if you can see yellow properties in the plant. This will give way to the growth of new buds.
