How To Get Rid Of Pimples

Submitted by Ellie L on 07/01/2009
Pimples are most common during adolescence because this is when hormonal fluctuations cause excess sebum production. Sebum is the natural oil of the body and seeps out to the surface of the skin through the pores. These pores sometimes get clogged by dead skin cells and a buildup of sebum within the blocked pores causes a pimple to form.

To treat as well as prevent pimples, it is necessary to reduce sebum levels on your skin. Wash your face with lukewarm or slightly warm water thrice a day as this will help to dissolve sebum and dirt on the surface of your skin. You can use a cosmetic facewash or make your own homemade facewash by mixing equal quantities of fresh lemon juice and honey. This natural facewash will also help to control the production of sebum as well as moisturize your skin.

Exfoliation involves the removal of the uppermost layer of dead skin cells. You should exfoliate your skin regularly as this will help to smoothen out your skin as well as reduce any pimple scars. You can make your own natural homemade face scrub for pimples out of a few simple household ingredients. Put a few spoons of brown rice in a mixer or grinder and grind it. Do not use packaged rice flour as this flour would be too fine to be used in a scrub. Add enough fresh tomato juice to the coarse rice flour so that it forms a paste. Scrub your face with this paste gently but thoroughly for a few minutes. Wash the paste off with warm water and then rinse your face with cold water. Tomato juice is acidic and helps to dissolve sebum and dead skin and allows it to be scrubbed off and washed away. If you prefer to use a ready made product, consider trying the Dermalogica range, as its made with natural ingredients.

A weekly face pack is an essential part of any skin care program. Use Fuller’s earth as the base for your face pack as it is very absorbent clay. A face pack made out of fuller’s earth will absorb the excess sebum on your skin and will help to keep your pores clean. Blend a piece of carrot and a piece of cucumber and add this juice to about one tablespoon of fuller’s earth. You can also add fresh orange juice to the mixture and then apply it to your face. This is a nourishing face mask that will help to reduce sebum levels and get rid of surface dirt and grime.

Follow this skin care routine on a regular basis for smooth, toned, blemish-free skin.
