A bow press is used to build your own archery bow or even used to repair one. Bow press is very easy to build but it also needs determination and patience as one will engage into an accurate angle to be able to produce an accurate bow to make the arrows hit the target accurately, too. The good thing about this is that you will have to build only one bow press and you can make thousands of archery bows. So, if you really have to build one, make it perfect by following the instructions below:
Step 1
You will have to secure the following materials to get you started fabricating your own bow press:
• Hollow steel bars—1 piece 1100x20 millimeters and 2 pieces 40x20 millimeters • Flat bars—2 pieces 2 feet long • 4 pieces handles • 8 pieces 4x6 inches metal squares • 2 pieces 4x2 inches flat steel • 2 pieces steel brackets • 2 pieces flat steel with 2 feet long • A box of ½ inch bolts • A box of screws • A drill with 1 inch drill bits • Face shields—welders face shields are advisable • Pencils • Protractors and Tape Measures
Step 2
Before you do the work, put on your face shields and then lay down the 1100x20 millimeter onto your workbench. Take your tape measure and make 100 millimeter measure from the left and from the right marking each one with your pencil.
Step 3
Make a 45 degrees line on your 40x20 millimeters hollow steel bars cut through the lines just to have specific angles on them.
Step 4
Now, you will need to carefully line the 45 degrees angle to the lines you made in your 1100x20 millimeters steel bars and make them fixed by welding them on.
Step 5
You must also affix the metal brackets to both ends of 1100x20 millimeter hollow steel bar. Be sure that you weld them carefully not to be detached.
Step 6
Using your drill, create a hole in the center of the 8 4x6 inches metal squares.
Step 7
Create a U-shaped metal piece by welding 4x6 inches metal squares to both ends of 4x2 inches metal. You need to make two of them, so repeat the process to another 4x2 inches metal but be sure to have them aligned.
Step 8
On the 2 feet flat steel bars, drill 14 holes with 1 inch wide at 0.5 inch distance from each other. Do this to the second bar too.
Step 9
Now attach the 2 feet flat steel bars to the U-shaped pieces. Insert the handles and screw them carefully not to slide easily.
Step 10
You will need to have an X piece, so you have to put the two bars over the other and attach them together with a bolt. The holes you drilled awhile ago will be useful to have a balanced X steel bar.
Step 11
Lastly, the 4 4x6 inches metal squares should be affixed to the 40x20 millimeter hollow bars which were attached to the 1110x20 millimeter bars. Always be sure that the bolt can hold them properly and firmly. Handles should also be secured in the place for you to have a comfortable part to hold on while using your bow press.
